The phenomenon known simply as ‘The Disclosure Record’ continues to pump out hit singles and videos from their Grammy-nominated album ‘Settle’. Possibly my favorite from the disc is the opening track entitled “When A Fire Starts To Burn”. The best part about Disclosure’s production skills is their creative talents when it comes to sampling, and “When A Fire Starts To Burn” is no exception. “Burn” features portions of speeches from motivational speaker Eric Thomas’ ‘Thank God It’s Monday’ series. Thomas’ speech details the notion of spontaneous combustion within self-thoughts, comparing attitudes to fires that spread similar to a domino effect. The clever sampling of the lyrics mixed above paired with Disclosure’s instrumentals is a standout moment in music. Disclosure’s videos continue their strand of weirdness here though, pairing Thomas with a room full of wild animals, praise dancing, and a #clothesline (4:49). Either way, it’s still a solid musical pairing from the British production duo and has become a favorite for just about any occasion.
