Sia Furler, the highly sought-after Grammy nominated songwriter, has put herself at the musical forefront with her newest single “Chandelier”. The stirring power ballad, written and produced with longtime collaborator Greg Kurstin, sounds more like the love child of Rihanna’s “Diamonds” and David Guetta’s “Titanium” than an original Sia number. Previous lead Sia singles such as “Day Too Soon” and “Clap Your Hands” sound more like her aesthetic than the radio-crafted “Chandelier”. The song does provide a great bit of inspirational motivation as Sia belts out the strongest, boldest chorus in her entire catalog. But sadly, that’s about it. Frankly, as strong as Sia’s vocals are on “Chandelier”, there are way too many elements similar to her previously written works. The video, co-directed by Sia herself, fares much better and paints a vivid picture of where her songwriting is meant to go. Featuring Maddie Ziegler of ‘Dance Moms’ fame, the bold clip is possibly more powerful than the song itself – which surely works in Sia’s favor. After watching the clip, it’s like you almost forgive “Chandelier” for being to closely related to a slew of #1 singles. Somehow, the inspirational nature of Sia’s latest single as displayed through its video propels her into Top 40 territory solo. Watch and download Sia’s “Chandelier” below.
