[OP-ED] The Art of Classically Trained Rappers – Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Azealia Banks

 Are performing artists with formal class training more destined for success than those artists who aren’t? This Huffington Post article reintroduces the notion that higher education can help any career through some of its predecessors. Nicki Minaj and Azealia Banks both attended the prestigious Laguardia High School for the Performing Arts (where the movie ‘Fame’ was shot) and have seen massive success in their own rights – one as a mainstream rap prodigy with a full music education, the other as the Internet’s #liquoricebitch with parts of a music education program. Both career paths have proven successful in their own retrospect, as the article mentions other forms of music curriculum by Tupac (Harlem’s 127th Street Repertory Ensemble), Drake (various acting classes), and others. Either way, the success of artists with music training is proven beneficial, given the right drive and platform.
