[SONG] Florence + The Machine x Dev Hynes x “Never Let Me Go” (Blood Orange Remix)

British indie-singer-songwriter Devonte Hynes (aka Lightspeed Champion or Blood Orange) has remixed my favorite song from Florence + the Machine’s “Never Let Me Go” – to mixed results. Hynes, most recently known for his work on Theophilus London’s single “Flying Overseas” (also with Solange) is a godsend for the indie soul vocalist movement. He’s not signed to a “major” label and he may never have songs on the radio, but Dev’s music as both Champion and Orange have been impressive since his 2007 debut ‘Falling Off The Lavender Bridge’. On Florence’s “Never Let Me Go”, Dev sings beautifully over the Machine’s remixed harmonies, but I’m not sure a song this great deserves re-interpretation. Still, Hynes keeps most of Florence’s original vocals, but gives the arrangement a dark rock twist, somewhat drowning her pitch-perfect vocals. People may not have realized it yet, but Florence’s vocals on “Never Let Me Go” are probably some of the best I’ve ever heard from her. Dev’s smooth adlibs after Florence’s complement each other well, also making talks of a duet album a really great look for both of them. Listen and download Dev’s “Never Let Me Go” version below.
