New Orleans indie rapper Dee-1’s single “Jay, 50, and Weezy” is a first person account/message to the three rappers namedropped in the bold title. Dee-1 goes through each rapper and intellectually challenges their decisions on the music industry, also questioning his belief in the rappers’ intentions as well as their intentions for the fans. The song, not a “diss track” in anyway, is spoken with many unknown truths that most signed rappers (Lupe Fiasco, Common) are usually silenced from their labels from speaking on. Dee also boldly mimics the rappers’ flows to pass his #blunt message along. Be sure to check out his paparazzi encounter in response to the song (3:11) as well as his #handperformance (4:29).
