If it’s one thing that Azealia Banks is misunderstood for, it’s her lyrics. Despite her many beefs in the industry, her lyrics have proven to be way more complicated and interesting. As a distinguished graduate of the LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts, her intellectual lyrical talents are cleverly crafted into her music. Many of the female greats in the hip-hop world have praised Azealia’s lyrics, and TUA is no exception. Ever since “212”, Azealia’s #attentiontowordplay have been constantly misquoted and misinterpreted, but that’s soon about to change. The femcee has made an official account on RapGenius, the premiere scientific source for understanding rap flows, lyrics, and meanings. RapGenius grades users input to lyrics by giving them an ‘IQ’ rating based on the accuracy of their submission. With extremely talented lyricists such as Wale and Kendrick Lamar also having official pages, an artist with Azealia’s level of intellect fits right in. The site features a ‘Verified Artists’ section with rappers who devote their time to correcting and providing interpretation for their own lyrics. Upon searching the section, it’s evident that femcees are very rare to provide their expertise to the site widely regarded as the main place to view hip-hop lyrics. The great punchliner Nicki Minaj doesn’t have an account and neither does AB’s primary competition Iggy Azalea. Azealia Banks stands as one of very few female rappers with an account on the site, and she’s been pretty busy correcting lyrics to her favorite songs – most notably her latest “Yung Rapunxel”.
