The final season of ‘Dexter’ will most likely end on a climatic note, especially from the first official look at the show’s penultimate moments. Showtime has finally unveiled its official press release, coining season eight as the grandeur ‘Dexter – The Final Season’:
When it debuted in 2006, DEXTER redefined the genre, by taking the anti-hero to new heights and pushing the boundaries of the television landscape,” said Matthew C. Blank, Chairman and CEO, Showtime Networks Inc. ” DEXTER paved the way for the next generation of award-winning hit SHOWTIME series, and its cultural impact will be felt for years to come.
DEXTER is a landmark franchise for our network, and we cannot wait to unveil the conclusion of this series, as we know it, to the millions of passionate fans who have supported the show season after season,” said David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. “We’d like to thank Michael, Jennifer, and DEXTER ‘s indomitable cast, executive producers, writers and crew for eight incredible seasons.
The exclusive tease from DEXTER ‘s eighth and final season premiere gives fans a sneak peek into the mindset of Dexter and Debra Morgan after LaGuerta’s death in season seven.
DEXTER stars Michael C. Hall in his Golden Globe and SAG Award-winning role as Dexter Morgan, a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department. As Deb (series star Jennifer Carpenter) struggles to deal with the consequences of her actions, a mysterious woman comes to work with Miami Metro, offering first-hand information on Dexter’s past. The series also stars Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Aimee Garcia, David Zayas, Geoff Pierson and James Remar. DEXTER is tied as the No. 1 rated series on SHOWTIME along with Homeland, watched by 6.2 million weekly viewers across platforms in its seventh season, its highest-rated yet. The season seven finale attracted 7.24 million viewers in the finale week, the series highest total week ever. Produced by SHOWTIME, DEXTER is executive produced by John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Scott Buck, Manny Coto, Tim Schlattmann, Wendy West, Jace Richdale and Michael C. Hall.
With over 13 million fans on Facebook and 440,000 followers on Twitter, DEXTER has one of the largest and most engaged fan communities among any television series. The series consistently ranks at the top of the iTunes charts, and is a leader in the “Social TV” space.
Previous clips (1 and 2) only featured shots from previous seasons, but the official Showtime teaser released along with the press release is enough to hold fans over until its final premiere. Among the best footage includes Debra’s shocking affirmation – “I shot the wrong person in that trailer” (1:47). The quote is a revelation for the troublesome Dex-Deb relationship due to the unexpected shooting of Maria LaGuerta. Dex also sports a #highfashionhaircut, which leads fans to believe that a time-jump is in the making. With an all-star cast slated to appear, this season will be the most exciting twelve (or more) episodes in the history of drama television. ‘Dexter’ season eight premiers Sunday, June 30, 2013.
