Singer-songwriter Stacy Barthe has been bubbling under the radar for years, releasing four EPs to date. She’s also written some of my favorite songs from today’s best artists – namely Katy Perry’s “Hummingbird Heartbeat” and Rihanna’s “Cheers (Drink To That)”. After songwriting for top tier artists should come a marketing package that prepares a multi-tasking musician for the real world known as the music industry. Lifted as a single from her latest offering ‘P.S. I Love You’, “Hell Yeah” carries questionable sentiments about Stacy’s future as an artist with so much potential. While “Yeah” is an overall uplifting tune about how the devil gets in the way of life’s shortcomings, the video falls flat on nearly every front possible. The video features a stereotypical storyline about a girl trying to raise a child while her #babydaddy runs the streets, slinging all the drugs you could imagine. Barthe rocks an ill-fitting vest with zipper-attached sleeves and a military ball cap, shamefully hiding her natural Caesar cut except for when she (barely) shares the screen with Rick Ross – beyond tragic. If this is truly the way that artists think they’ll sell records in 2013, they’re sadly mistaken. Watch Stacy Barthe and Rick Ross’ “Hell Yeah” below.
