New York producer-vocalist duo MS MR have blown away the indie blog circuits with the release of their first album ‘Secondhand Rapture’. The band, which is comprised of vocalist Lizzy Plapinger (MS) and producer Max Hershenow (MR), have exceeded their label’s expectations just by their massive following alone. After international hit singles “Hurricane” and “Fantasy”, MS MR’s third release comes in the form of the love ballad “Think Of You”. With most of their music, “Think Of You” incorporates dark elements that are sprinkled with bits of happiness throughout. MS sings on the chorus “I still think of you and all the shit you put me through, and I know you were wrong” with a strong conviction that she’s truly fighting with her heart’s choices. MR’s beat is gritty and eschews notions of the fast-paced New York City lifestyle beautifully portrayed through their collaborative songwriting. “Think Of You”, the clip, is also a weird, colorful affair with its retro television clips and lo-fi special effect techniques, but that’s just the band’s brilliant way of visualizing their music. A young boy watches MS MR’s performance and is eventually moved to the point that he enters the television and joins the duo’s party. As Lizzy performs for him, the fun nature of the song’s dark undertones truly come to life. Although I’m still hoping for a “Salty Sweet” video from MS MR, for now “Think Of You” is a brilliantly produced song with a perfect visual to pair it with.
