Out of Destiny’s three Children, inspirational singer Michelle Williams has been the most consistent in terms of vocal quality, artistry, and songwriting abilities. That’s why it’s no surprise that the first single from her fourth solo album ‘Journey To Freedom’ is a standout in the misguided world of R&B/soul music. Filmed by renowned photographer Derek Blanks, “If We Had Your Eyes” provides a spiritual message with a mainstream approach. The song showcases Williams’ storytelling ability as she compares how she (and others) view people in society versus how God does. The video features Destiny’s Child ex-member LeToya Luckett and “Eyes” producer Harmony Samuels, both who act out parts of the song’s exceptional songwriting. “Eyes” produced by Harmony Samuels, who was recently helmed to produce Fantasia’s entire ‘The Side Effects Of You’ album, has crafted a song that easily fits into top 40 urban radio. I’m hoping that Michelle’s latest gets the true props that it deserves, because it’s definitely her best single since “Heart To Yours”.
