[VIDEO] Alexandra Burke x “Do You Love What You Feel?” (Chaka Khan Apollo Tribute)

Alexandra-burke-3The singer most commonly known as #britishbeyonce is beginning to make waves with the upcoming release of her first stateside album. For the annual Apollo Theater Spring Gala Concert, Chaka Khan was one of the guests of honor. Performing alongside the likes of Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Holliday, Deborah Cox, and Patti Labelle stands UK ‘X-Factor’ winner Alexandra Burke. The powerhouse vocalist was tasked with the difficult 1979 hit single from Chaka’s band Rufus entitled “Do You Love What You Feel?”. In addition to a very warm introduction and crowd reception, Burke delivers a strong performance suitable for a much higher platform such as the Grammys or the Oscars. Burke, in my opinion, has been severely slept on by the American listening audience – mainly because of her lack of promotion. But despite poor advertising methods for one of the best British vocalists ever, Alexandra stands strong and brings what she’s most commonly known for – her beautiful voice. Yes, there’s a Beyonce-esque routine throughout the number, but Burke’s vocals stand out more than her American counterpart especially at 5:22 and 6:16. Either way, the #britishbeyonce compliment comparisons are rightfully justified again here, especially since she was hand-picked by Chaka to participate in Apollo’s tribute. Watch Alexandra Burke cover Rufus’ “Do You Love What You Feel?” below.
