After shocking the entire world by releasing her fifth studio effort just last Friday, the first official urban single from Beyonce’s self-titled disc is sure to burn up the R&B/Hip-Hop charts all winter. Bey shows that she’s letting everything go with this album, and apparently that includes graphic details about her and husband Jay Z’s sex life. “Drunk In Love” starts off with a sung verse, a Teflon-strong chorus, and a full sixteen bar rap. It takes quite a few listens to really #process Bey’s flow on “Love”, but it’s without question the best musical creativity from any of her singles to date. With the “Bow Down/I Been On” demo serving as her most recent rap attempt since her emcee debut on “Kitty Kat”, rapping on her first single was a risky, but highly successful move. “Boy I’m drinkin’, get my brain right, Armand de Brignac, gangster wife” raps a confident and sexy Bey, donning the same type of confidence as her (ghostwriter) husband. The black-and-white video further paints the epicness of the rap into a prettier portrait as she bounces and twerks around in South Beach. “Drunk In Love”, which I’ve been referring to as the ten year anniversary of “Crazy In Love”, was specifically crafted for urban radio and will be a success just because it’s Beyonce and Jay. The only question that remains is – will it do better than it’s upcoming competition (specifically Miley Cyrus’ “Adore You” and Eminem and Rihanna’s “The Monster”)? I’m not so sure.
