R&B icons and multiple Grammy award winners Toni Braxton and Babyface are gearing up to release a major album with hopes of saving #soul. The relationship themed project ‘Love, Marriage, and Divorce’ was listed on iTunes as a small scale #surprise to fans of both artists. While Toni’s last album ‘Pulse’ (2010) failed to chart significantly after the strength of its Trey Songz-assisted “Yesterday”, Babyface’s last effort ‘Grown and Sexy’ (2005) has become the least visible album in the R&B crooner’s catalog. Both artists are in need of a reboot to compete in today’s market, and the project’s first single “Hurt You” has become a huge success towards their goal. The single recently topped the ‘R&B/Soul’ chart and will surely increase its genre reign into the new year, while the second official single “Where Did We Go Wrong” comes free as a preorder with the album. As industry veterans, Braxton and Babyface have stuck to a tried-and-true format – pushing singles to one specific genre – that’s working considerably well. Given the current state of R&B, they’ll be even more successful come February.
