As if the Queen of Pop doesn’t have enough on her plate already with preparing for the ‘Prismatic World Tour’, Katy Perry can now add country to her long list of accomplishments. The Grammy-nominated singer will perform alongside newcomer Kacey Musgraves for ‘CMT Crossroads’, a series that pairs country artists with non-country artists for a mash-up concert. Many A-list artists have graced the ‘Crossroads’ stage since its inception in 2002, but Perry and Musgraves’ will be especially remarkable since it marks the show’s 50th episode. Of the ‘Crossroads’ shows to date, my favorite is the 2012 episode featuring Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler. Besides the classic pairing of Travis Tritt and Ray Charles in 2002, there haven’t been any other African-American artists which leads me to question the show’s (and the channel’s) inclusion of diversity. While Sugarland and Beyonce’ already collaborated for a performance of “Irreplaceable” at the American Music Awards, only a Bey-Jennifer Nettles pairing would be as equal (and diverse) to the soon-to-be-epic Perry-Musgraves CMT performance series. Watch a live performance of Kacey Musgraves’ Grammy-award winning single “Merry ‘Go Round” below and look out for her ‘Crossroads’ episode with Katy Perry airing June 13, 2014 at 10:00PM.
