Rapper A$AP Rocky is taking a break from his fashion endeavors to star in one of the most anticipated independent films of the year. Alongside the likes of fellow rapper Tyga, Casey Veggies, and Vince Staples, Rocky will take on the lead role in the upcoming Sundance film ‘Dope’ produced by Diddy, Pharrell, and veteran actor Forest Whitaker. The ‘Dope’ film not only marks Rocky’s first acting foray, but it is also his debut performance in a starring role capacity. Rocky will play a coming-of-age character who is struggling to survive in the darkest parts of Inglewood, California. The film also features director Whitaker, Zoe Kravitz (‘X-Men: First Class’), Diddy’s son Quincy Brown, model Chanel Iman, Tony Revolori (‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’), former NBA player Rick Fox, Blake Anderson (‘Workaholics’) and actor Keith Stanfield (‘Selma’). ‘Dope’ will be curated by Pharrell and hits select Sundance festival theatres on January 23, 2015.
