After working with Mykki Blanco and receiving praise from Le1f, the artist formerly known as Wavy Spice has resurfaced as “Princess Nokia”. The musical collaboration includes Destiny Ortiz as the main vocalist, while DJ OWWWLS (Azealia Banks’ “Atlantis”, “US”, and “Chips”) takes production duties to make Princess Nokia an up-and-coming force to be reckoned with. On “Young Girls”, Ortiz takes an inspirational approach to motivating youth by presenting them at their feminist finest. “Young girls, they need their own respect / young girls, carry babies from their neck” croons Princess over the piano-laden beat. The “Girls” video treatment features…well, girls. Mothers, particularly, while the overarching theme of #girlpower reigns strong.
