Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves may be the last person you’d expect to write a song about food, but the lead single from her upcoming album tackles one of life’s most precious snacks – biscuits. On “Biscuits”, Kacey uses an analogy between food and being nosey to provide the world with the best life advice you’d ever receive: “mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy”. Kacey decides to take the direct approach to let the world know that staying in your own world is the best thing for everyone to get along peacefully. The sentiments regarding minding your own business came via high-demand country songwriters Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark, who also collaborated with Musgraves on her award-winning single “Follow Your Arrow”. On both songs, however, there’s references to marijuana, which has been showing as a central theme in Musgraves’ (and country) music. “Arrow” features the line “when the straight and narrow gets a little too straight / roll up a joint, or don’t” while “Biscuits” continues this trend with the witty line “smoke your own smoke and grow your own daisies”. All greenery aside, “Biscuits” rises to the top of Kacey’s catalog as one of her best country-pop crossover singles to date. Listen and download Kacey Musgraves’ “Biscuits” below.
