After winning a Grammy for her epic “Somebody That I Used To Know” duet with Gotye, New Zealand singer-songwriter Kimbra has been on a strong upward path ever since. Her second album ‘The Golden Echo’ spawned three massive singles for her and brought her powerful alt-r&b vocal knocking down my front door. On a live redux of album standout “Love In High Places”, Kimbra sings a subdued version of the ‘Echo’ classic with just two backing instrumentalists. Kimbra refers to “Places” as an 80s funk-meets-electropop song with a touch of smoothness and her live version makes this description quite accurate. The song was co-written by Matt Morris (Christina Aguilera’s “Can’t Hold Us Down”, Kelly Clarkson’s “Miss Independent”) and is definitely among some of Kimbra’s best material to date. The “Places” performance packs quite a bit of vocal punch to support Kimbra’s greatness, most notably at 1:20-1:58 and 3:46-4:00. After wowing Coachella fans two weeks in a row, live performances like these are sure to win Kimbra many more Grammys in the near future. Watch Kimbra’s “Love In High Places” live on Perez TV below.
