The first single from Theophilus London’s second album ‘Vibezz’ has created quite a buzz on social media over the last few weeks. With his trendy Instagram account approaching 100,000 followers and his LVRS men’s clothing line garnering international high fashion acclaim, his music deserves an equal amount of fame. While many of London’s collaborative efforts have been propelled by indie hip-hop and alternative artists, “Rio” boasts an unlikely collaboration from the Brooklyn-based Menahan Street Band. The result is a fresh take on the #hiphopsoul movement, the mixed genre which incorporates rapping and singing beautifully. As Theophilus croons “even if you’re in Rio de Janeiro, I’ll give you all my affection” over the relaxed, tropical beat by the band, the mood is definitely set for the Brazil vacation spot. The video treatment features #chocotheo with #chocobeauties, all decked out in the greatest of great haute couture. His soulful nature shines brightly as the band accompanies him in a cotton club-esque backdrop. While Theo’s first album ‘Timez Are Weird These Days’ garnered massive critical acclaim but lukewarm sales, his latest effort is definitely the type of single to propel his career to new heights.
