Seattle singer-songwriter Perfume Genius continues to wow critics with his latest video for pop gem “Fool”. Despite its magnitude, the song discusses ways in which his acts of love can be viewed as foolish by his lover. “I made your dress, I’m bleeding out / on the couch and bar, that I picked out” sings Perfume Genius over the futuristic, surreal pop/rock arrangement. With a sickening red lip, the video for Perfume Genius’ “Fool” embodies a realistic level of love fantasies. The video is produced alongside the Urban Outfitters Blog and has Perfume donning some of his best looks ever. Perfume is seen roller-blading through a London grocery store and delicately posing with a satin sheet effect that brings out the best of his songwriting. He remains on the roller-blades as he meets a form of “evil” in a church-like setting, in a successful effort to bring his words to life on “Fool”. I really love how the song (and the video) challenges gender norms with Perfume’s styling. The clever song is lifted as the third single from Perfume’s critically acclaimed third album ‘Too Bright’ and is a strong indication that his sultry pop tunes have a place within contemporary music.
