After producing massive hits all year for his own Major Lazer and Jack U projects, Diplo had time to produce a cartoon dedicated to the character at the center of his marketing. As a retro futuristic Black soldier with a penchant for sunglasses, the Major Lazer character is quite unique. The official synopsis reads:
The reggae dancehall grooves of Major Lazer are just one of the highlights in Major Lazer. The animated series tells the story of a superhero named Major Lazer who, with the help of his two teenaged friends, Penny and BLKMRKT, fights against the villains that populate the futuristic dystopia that is Jamaica. A self-proclaimed “Guardian of the Groove,” Major Lazer vows to fight for the rights of the Jamaican people and to bring down the ruthless curmudgeon, President Whitewall.
The character was crafted by Diplo alongside fellow EDM producers Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. Given that the Major Lazer project has released three full-length albums, it looks like Diplo’s iconic cartoon character is here to stay. Watch an extended preview of the show below and catch the official premiere on Thursdays at midnight on FXX.
