After breaking her foot during weekend one of California’s Coachella Music Festival, you’d think Florence Welch would need a break. But being the dedicated artist she is, Florence promised to keep all of her summer festival dates. For a surprise cover of the Everly Brothers’ classic “Love Hurts”, Welch brought out subpop guru-of-the-moment Father John Misty. With Misty’s claim to popularity rising by the second, performing a take of a timeless rock/pop ballad is a great move for both parties. Florence remains centered on a stool for the entire performance (and most of her week two set) while Father John plays guitar while crooning with the Machine lead singer. I love the fact that their unique voices blend perfectly together on the live arrangement, which makes me wonder if a potential collaborative project could ever come out of their impromptu duet. Watch Florence Welch and Father John Misty cover “Love Hurts” at week two of Coachella below.
