American synthpop band Future Islands may be on the final leg of their fourth album ‘Islands’, but that doesn’t mean their songs aren’t still impacting music listeners. On the set’s first official single “Seasons (Waiting On You)”, lead vocalist Samuel Herring sings very passionately about the changes that a person goes through in life. “People change, but you know some people never do / you know when people change, they gain a piece but they lose one too” Herring croons over the downtempo 80s rock/pop arrangement. The smooth vocal that Sam provides over the modern instruments used makes for a pop number that can’t be denied. “Seasons” the official video features a simple cowboy theme on a traditional American plantation, but it’s the live renditions that truly do the song justice. Herring’s epic dancing (2:11) and spur-of-the-moment off-key high notes (3:09) made for quite a viral moment for the band late last year. Nevertheless, top 40 fans disregard songs like this because it’s too far from the norm, but that’s what makes “Seasons” so amazing. In fact, “Seasons” went on to become the best song of 2014 by the likes of Spin, Pitchfork, NME, and the Guardian. The band just recently released the second ‘Singles’ effort, and are planning to hit American festival circuits nationwide this summer.
